Report: MTS to invest 1 bln rbl in Yaroslavl Region development

MOSCOW, Sep 29 (PRIME) -- Mobile operator MTS will invest more than 1 billion rubles by the end of 2016 in the development of telecom infrastructure and innovative projects in the Yaroslavl Region in central Russia, ComNews reported Tuesday.

“Over the recent years, we have covered almost the whole territory of the region with 3G Internet and launched a high-speed 4G network. In 2014 MTS extended the length of fiber optic lines in the region by almost 400 kilometers and we expanded the throughput capacity of connection channels up to 100 gigabits per second, which improved reliability and handling capacity of the network,” Igor Yegorov, head of MTS’s central territorial division, said.

The operator, which signed an agreement with the regional government, will develop mobile and fixed-line connection in the area.

MTS will increase the number of 4G base stations by 60% by the end of 2015. The operator will develop and upgrade the 2G and 3G networks both in economically active and remote districts of the region.
